Reference: PR-06
Duration: 1 Day(s)

Description

UK Defence Standard 00-56, Safety Management of Defence Systems, was released in 2007 to replace and expand on DEF STAN 00-55. DEF STAN 00-56 represents a significant departure from previous releases by introducing a goal based approach. The new standard identifies the requirements to be satisfied in order to achieve safety assurance without mandating particular methods.

This one-day course is designed to impart an understanding of the concepts underlying safety analysis and the safety documentation required by the Ministry of Defence.  The course describes the methods and procedures required to prepare clear, concise and comprehensive documentation in accordance with DEF STAN 00-56.

Content

  • The purpose of DEF STAN 00-56
  • Overview of changes to DEF STAN 00=55
  • The principles of safety management
  • Roles and responsibilities
  • How to produce a development plan
  • How to implement a DEF STAN 00-56 compliant development process
  • How to apply DEF STAN 00-56 across different Safety Integrity Levels (SIL)
  • How to use the identified behaviour to develop the system physical architecture
  • The inputs and outputs of each development phase

Who should attend

Engineers, managers and QA personnel who need to make decisions affecting the safety of new or modified military systems.

Prerequisites
